Dr. Joseba Zulaika (Ph.D. Princeton 1982) is an anthropologist and Professor Emeritus at the Center for Basque Studies, University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Zulaika conducted fieldwork and published ethnographies of deep-sea fishermen, farmers, soldiers, terrorists, hunters, and artists. He has published extensively on terrorism and counterterrorism, including Basque Violence: Metaphor and Sacrament; Terror and Taboo: The Follies, Fables and Faces of Terrorism (with William Douglass); Terrorism: The Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, as well as numerous articles on the culture of violence and terrorism.
Zulaika has also worked on the urban and political renewal of the city of Bilbao; among his publications are: Crónica de una seducción: El museo Guggenheim Bilbao; Guggenheim Bilbao Museoa: Museums, Architecture and City Renewal; Learning from the Bilbao Guggenheim (with Anna Guasch); That Old Bilbao Moon: The Passion and Resurrection of a City. His most recent book is Hellfire from Paradise Ranch: On the Frontlines of Drone Warfare.
